Illegal Logging

Concerning the construction and use of two logging roads built through Lake Babine Indian Reserves No. 16 and No. 5 by the Omineca Lumber Company between 1957 and the early 1960s. The primary issues addressed by the research undertaken for this Report were: the adequacy of compensation received by the Lake Babine Band for the extraction of timber during the construction of these roads and for their subsequent use by the Company and; whether any illegal logging activity took place on the Reserves during the period in question.  This claim requires further research.  

2017 Skeena Sockeye Management Plan

In 2017, the total sockeye return to the entire Skeena River is expected to be 500,000. The average return is about 2 million. The predicted 2017 return would be about the same size as the return in 2013 that led to dramatic reductions in food fish harvest for LBN.
